Human Touch

I’ve done this once before, so why not another time. It’s always interesting to see what has changed. ^^

In response to yesterday, I can only say that “haters gonna hate”, but I won’t let this get me down. I guess it’s just one of the troubles of when you’re too mature for some people. They can’t handle it, so they need to find a way to try and break your stride. The good thing about maturity is however, you learn to accept trolls and haters for who they are and just move on. And hey, I’ll do just that. No need to grief myself to the grave over people who still have some growing up to do.

And hey, when I actually wanna talk dirty, I’ll just head on over to IMVU :P You know, as in, I’ll intentionally make ‘mature jokes’ and stuff over there. ’cause I’m cool like that. Or rather, cause I know I can do that there.

So, without further ado, here’s the deal:

Put your musical device on shuffle (I’m using my computer’s iTunes, which is always on shuffle XD) and put the songs that come up as the answers to the quiz. In the order that they come up, of course. NO CHEATING, then it’s no fun! Also, if you have any comments to make about a certain answer, put them after you write the song’s name.

IF YOU READ THIS, CONSIDER YOURSELF TAGGED! I appreciate links to your journals/blogs so that I get to see what your answers were. I’ll keep them secret if necessary :P

Personal disclaimer: My computer has a lot of music, including OSTs for games and anime. Lots of German, Korean, Celtic, Japanese, French… you name it. For the purpose of this ‘exercise’, I’ll only use English songs (nothing without vocals) and skip anything that is not. I’ll provide links to the lyrics for quick reference – if you notice German text here and there, do not be surprised. I just picked whatever Google came up with first. As I mentioned yesterday, German Google tends to display a little different than the English one. :P Feel free to look them up again yourselves.

Last time I did this, it was with Amadeus, so let’s see what Hikari-chan is coming up with. Let’s roll, iTunes!

        1. What’s your motto?
The Rolling Stones: You Can’t Always Get What You Want – Well, ain’t that the truth! I’ve always loved this song (blame House M.D. for me liking it more, due to the way they used it). It’s true though. You really cannot always get those things you are after. Sometimes it’s a good thing, because it turns out you didn’t really need them. Sometimes you have to look for alternatives. And sometimes it’s just a good lesson: be thankful for that which you already have. I want this to be my mantra, though every now and then I fail to abide by it, seeing only those things that I do not (yet) have. However, I think I’m getting there. the more often I visualize what this song truly means, the better I get at living accordingly.
        2. What do people think of you?
Linkin Park: Dust in the Wind (Acoustic Guitar) – That’s kind of deep and how cliche of me to say that. The song says so little, and yet a whole lot – to me, anyways. Is it a good way to describe me? I don’t know. I’ll leave that decision to you, dear reader.
        3. What does your family think of you?
Linkin Park: My December – Well, this is odd, in a way. Another Linkin Park song right after the last one, gasp! People must think I’m [insert your LP-related stereotype here]. Or that I just happen to have a lot of LP in my music. >.< The longer I listen to this song, the truer it seems to hold. (Is that even a word, “truer”? I mean, technically…) A place to come home to… that’s the one thing I’ve yearned for the most while I was in Canada. Am I there yet?
        4. What do your friends think about you?
Sting: Big Lie, Small World – This somehow fits very well with the previous two answers. When the time comes that your learn to distinguish  between people you can trust and love,  be they friends or lovers, you come to realize as well that this world is a lonely place. It doesn’t have to  be,  but there’ll  be those times when it simply is. Especially if the people hurting you are connected some way or another. Finding out things like that can turn a  bad day into your worst, and have you enter a phase of stagnation. That said, even those times will fade.
        5. How do you feel?
America: The Last Unicorn – First of all, I L.O.V.E. this song to pieces. Childhood nostalgia is go! Although it only now occurred to me how different the German version is. I should get my hands on it to compare.  Anyways. This song has a sense of hopeful melancholy, and somehow that’s what my overall life is like or so I keep telling myself. Never quite on top of the hill, and yet always looking up and forward in the hopes of catching a glimpse at the sun and the gorgeous view. Or something like that.
        6. What do you have to be told numerous times?
Linkin Park: Crawling – You’ve got to  be sh*tting me XD Third Linkin Park song. Over 4500 songs in my library, and I keep getting the same artist(s). No cheating though, so… The odd thing is that this question supposedly is what people tell me, not the other way. If I interpret it in the “Kijame, I have a problem! *angst*” way, then I suppose, it holds true as well though. Putting aside the ‘real’ problems I know my friends and acquaintances to have, some really are attention wh*res. And I want to tell it to their faces, and usually get the “You don’t understand me all!” response. Don’t get me wrong, I agree that you cannot weigh one person’s pain over another. However, your parent’s not allowing you to get a tattoo/piercing until you’re 18 (to give a generic, non-descript example) is NOT life-threatening, nor does it mean your life is hell. Seriously, chill. If this is your life at home and you think it  really is that horrible, move out and get a job. Try to keep in mind that there’s -always- someone who’s got it worse that you. Always.
        7. What do you wish your name was?
Elvis: Return to Sender – Wait, what? I wish I’d actually gotten a song with/about a name for this one. No really, I’m out of interpretations for this one.
        8. What’s your favourite song?
DDR: Butterfly (Pikachu & the Pokemon’s remix) – I’ll argue against this actually being my favourite song, lol. It IS catchy though. And now I wanna try DDR o.o
        9. What do you aspire to be?
Disney‘s Yo Ho! (A Pirate’s Life for Me) – Well crap. I always saw myself on the Ninja side of the fight. Although, if LoZ:WW has taught me anything, then it is that Pirates ARE Ninjas. Or vice versa. So, I guess, if I wanted to put a positive spin on what this song means… I’ll get to do what I want? (Which is not pillaging and plundering, kthx. XD)
        10. How old are you?
Sagisu Shirou: Always be with me in mind – So I guess in relation to my age, it means I’m eternal? Ageless? Immortal? Am I the old kind of immortal, or the young one? The song itself is pretty opera-ish, so I’m guessing middle-aged? I mean, if it was a Pokemon song, I’d figure I’m always a kid at heart, or something. This leaves me a tad puzzled XD Then again, if I take into account that this song is from the Movie OST… hm…
        11. How do you want to die?
Big & Rich: Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy – Freaking lolgasm right there. Although I sincerely hope I’ll be the one doing the riding (no pun-nuendo intended). This song is preeeeeeetty obvious in what it is a bout. Which actually happens to be something that’s not really on my mind, despite all the jokes I make about it. Go figure.
        12. What do you think of life?
Beyonce: Listen – This once again ties in with a few of the songs/responses mentioned above. It fits very nicely, although I’m not sure to what extent I can elaborate – or even want to. Although I can only think of one particular person whom I’d sing it to and mean it word by word… I’ve tried to sever the bonds between us for good, but even now, in small details here and there, I am haunted. And when it comes down to it, we’ll always be connected, regardless of how I feel. Thankfully, like every other human being, I can choose to ignore that connection as much as possible.
        13. What do you think happens after death?
Groove Coverage: Moonlight Shadow -  In a sense, I hope this holds true. Seeing those who passed on prior to our own death. It gives a sense of meaning. That life wasn’t pointless, ending with the final moments. At the same time though, I think we’re also able to ‘move on’ to a new life, and experience many more things. In the end, I have only one way to find out though :P  I’d like to note that the first song I got here was actually Sephiroth’s Theme (“One-Winged Angel”; KH version). Since I imposed the English-only rule on myself however, it doesn’t count. XD
        14. What do you like about people?
Josh Abraham & Mike Shinoda: By_Myslf – Well what do you know. Yet another Linkin Park song; although it’s a re-do this time. Do I like this about people? I dunno. I mean, keeping to ourselves can be as dangerous as it can be life-saving. Really depends on the people you hang with (or not), in the end. If anything though, I think this song drastically emphasizes the fact that humans are social animals and that we need company, lest we go insane. I like being with people, but in moderation. If I stick around them for too long, I remember why I don’t like being with people. And yes, that makes sense.
        15. What do you think of your friends?
Rob Thomas: Ever the Same – Ah, splendid. This somewhat ties in again with the song right above. Those that I can proudly call my friends, those are the people I need. And they need me.  We’re there for one another, and sometimes our connection goes as far as to understand each other’s silences as well as spoken words. We’ll help one another carry our burdens, and already the day seems less of a downer. I <3 my friends.
        16. What’s the world like to you?
Alcazar: Sexual Guarantee – Again with the sex, geez. It’s like there’s nothing else on my mind, when the truth is far from it. Save for dirty jokes, which I love. Then again, if I spin this a little, I could argue that this song  describes my thoughts on how (some) people take sex waaaaaaaaaaay too serious (or in the wrong way). It’s always about sex. Sex is evil, sex is a crime, sex is the devil, whatever. Now the song itself doesn’t say that, but what I mean is that sex, in a sense, is omnipresent in this world. No matter how many child-protecting measures you take, your kid will still walk in on you and your partner, discover that porn channel, or end up with a stripper on chatroulette. It’ll happen, and guess what: that doesn’t mean your kid will have sex. See also the “videogames make kids/people violent” argument. Get your priorities straight people. I’m not saying you should expose anyone to sex. I’m saying that you’re putting measures and attention in the wrong places. Gawd I could write an essay on this three times over. P.S.: I like this song ’cause it’s catchy.
        17. What kind of person do you love?
Rihanna: Unfaithful – I swear it’s not what it looks like! XD Or rather, I seem to give my heart to the wrong people, and it kills me inside a little more each time. And yet I keep trying. If only my ex’s were like Rihanna, realizing what they do to me… *cough* Well, enough with the drama. And in a sense, I have to say, I have the same issue with ‘friends’ too. Some are quite the backstabbers, and I continue to be surprised how I have not yet lost my faith in humanity completely. Though I suppose I’m getting there.
        18. What was your day like?
James Blunt: Goodbye My Lover – Geez, it’s like I have the blues today. Which isn’t entirely untrue, I just wish it was. You can’t take the lyrics too literal when it comes to interpreting my day, though the melody fits nicely.
        19. What’s your favourite thing to do?
Amanda Seyfried: I have a Dream/Thank you for the Music – Two songs since they’re together, as the latter is a hidden track on the Mamma Mia Movie OST CD, and all that knickknack. That said… I do love singing. It might not be my top favourite thing, but it definitely makes the list. Although I prefer to sing for myself, with nobody listening. Since I have no idea what I sound like to other people. It sounds alright in my head. Sometimes, I take a melody and make up my own lyrics, in particular when there’s something I’m wishing/hoping for. And sometimes I even make up the melody, though those songs end up the ones I regret not writing down. They’re one of a kind, since I can never get them together again in my head after I’m done singing XD Music brings my day to life, and always helps me cheer up. It’s also perfect for getting into the mood for drawing and writing. I sleep with music, I ride the bus or walk with music… how did I live my life without my iPod? D: — Now if I used the second part/song for the question below… it’d make a lot of sense too.
        20. What will you name this journal?
Bruce Springsteen: Human Touch – I suppose it fits too. Music is something quite human – not that there aren’t any animals with a knack for melodies. This song also makes for a nice closing statement to this collection. :)

Phew! This journal entry took forever… I skipped quite a few themes, as well as German and Japanese songs XD I guess next time I’ll include them again. With translations, if I find any. Still, to get Linkin Park 4 times… it’s a little creepy and awesome at the same time.

Note to self: this thing asks for comments, not essays, on the songs. Again I presented you with wall(s) of text.
